Abstract

This book includes portraits of various art world luminaries and institutions, captioned with awards bestowed upon them by Celender. Examples are: “Leading Copycat Artist of an Artist Father” (Jamie Wyeth), “Hardest to Find Elevator in a Museum” (The Brooklyn Museum), “Most Hostile Gallery Atmosphere” (Marlborough Gallery, Inc.), “Worst Dressed Critic” (Max Kozloff) and “Dullest Critic” (Michael Fried). The book is filled with cheap shots as well as compliments that are pretty obviously bestowed upon people the artist must have known. One senses here how much smaller the commercial New York-centric art world was in the early 1970s.
