The Edward Duffield Neill papers which date from 1838 to 1976 consists of correspondence, articles and publications, photography, professional materials, and ephemera from his life. Much of the correspondence collected are copies of letters of which the originals (and other unique materials) reside within the Minnesota Historical Society's Edward D. Neill and family papers.

Historical Note

A letter from Sumner to Neill discussing a statute put forward in Virginia which stated partly, "...could not see why one free man should be (illegible) more than another merely upon account of his complexion".
