Historical Note
Safavid Qur'an folio leaves from 16th century Iran. Shows influence of Persian script during the time of Persian miniatures as well as influence of other Asian cultures such as the Mongol, Chinese, Silk Road, and Northern Islamic Empire. Focus is on the ends of the lines and verses, with similar sounds as part of the auditory tradition, making a pattern pleasing to the ear, combining the auditory with the visual. Similar to how in later writings, diacritics were used to suggest how to recite the passages.
