From the Collection:

This collection contains Medieval folios spanning an approximately 500 year period from 1100 to 1600 ce. These folios were purchased from private sellers for use in research and instruction at Macalester College.

Historical Note

Late 12th century bifolio, most likely from a German missal (a liturgical book containing instructions and texts necessary for the celebration of Mass) with musical notation in the form of neumes (an early precursor to the modern five-line staff notation) without staves.
