This collection contains Medieval folios spanning an approximately 500 year period from 1100 to 1600 ce. These folios were purchased from private sellers for use in research and instruction at Macalester College.

Historical Note
An illuminated folio from the Codex Justinianus (Code of Justinian), one part of the Corpus Juris Civilis, the codification of Roman law ordered early in the 6th century AD by Justinian I, who was Eastern Roman emperor in Constantinople, transcribed in Southern France around the 14th century.
Commentary written in a rounded hand surrounds the original text. Rubrics in red, paragraph marks and chapter numbers in red and blue. Verso with the large initial "I" in blue, white, and gold, enclosing the head of a dragon
