Historical Note

The Macalester Christian Association (MCA) was formed in 1942 as a conglomerate council and cabinet of various Christian organizations on campus, brought together to help advance the missions of each. In 1960 the group became the Commission on Religious Emphasis.

From the 1955 MCA constitution:

Purpose

a. ...to include all students of Macalester College in a fellowship where they can through a growing knowledge of God realize a fuller and more creative life...

b. The Macalester Christian Association will serve each constituent organization by stimulating it to greater effectiveness in performing the work for which it has been organized.

c. It shall be a function of the Macalester Christian Association to undertake those activities which can be performed more effectively in a united manner.
