Ashley Allen collection

Ashley Allen (class of 2021) is a storyteller from Orono, Minnesota who loves learning about the world around her. Having grown up with apraxia, a verbal and processing disorder, she struggled to verbally communicate at a young age. However, she never struggled putting words on a page. While attending speech therapy, she began to fall in love with language and the ways people communicate. Writing served as her initial means of communication and continues to be her favorite way of connecting and processing the world around her. She aspires to tell stories that catalyze change and help others do the same. As a recent graduate from Macalester College, Ashley currently works in marketing and dreams of someday running her own creative studio and finally putting to use her economics degree. Ashley was a member of DC Comics’ Milestone Initiative, a talent discovery program that trained emerging writers and artists in visual storytelling. She currently works for DC Comics, Marvel Comics, and Capstone Publishing as a freelance writer, working with characters such as Moon Knight, Iron Man, Batgirl, Poison Ivy, and more! Her first on-going series with Marvel will debut in January 2025, starring Magik. This will be the character’s first ever solo series and will be featured as part of the X-Men reboot at Marvel.
