Scope and Contents
The collection contains records documenting the Canadian American Conference from 1941 to 1965 documenting the first through twenty-fifth conferences. There is additionally a particular emphasis on preparations for the conference's twenty-fifth anniversary brochure. Materials in the collection include multiple drafts of historical essays and appendices, topic selection documents, entertainment and debate materials, conference programs, handwritten notes and outlines, and records from conferences.

Biographical / Historical
The Canadian American Conference (CAC) was a joint project between United College in Canada and Macalester College. The first conference was held in Winnipeg Canada in 1941 and each conference subsequently alternated locations between Winnipeg, Canada and St. Paul, Minnesota. The CAC was a chance for students and faculty to discuss items of “mutual interest” which included shared political, social, cultural, economic issues and international affairs. The conference brought together students, faculty, and invited speakers from institutions in both countries to participate in debates, lectures, panel discussions, and social activities designed to foster mutual understanding and international cooperation. This collection documents the history of the conference, including accounts of its early meetings, program development, entertainment, debates, and other activities that reflect the evolution of the organization over its lifetime.
