Historical Note
Proud Indigenous Peoples for Education (P.I.P.E.) is the Indigenous student organization at Macalester College consisting of members of assorted North American tribes as well as students from other backgrounds. The philosophy behind P.I.P.E. is to increase campus awareness about Indigenous cultures and intercultural issues while working closely with other student organizations.
P.I.P.E. was formerly known as the Native American Coalition, which was founded in September of 1969 "for the furthering of the educational, social, and economic opportunities of the Native American community". It was in the 1980s that the named was changed to P.I.P.E.
