Scope and Contents

The collection consists of correspondence, writings, research materials, teaching files, publications, conference and event ephemera, photographs, and records documenting David Blaney's faculty work at Macalester College. A large portion of the collection includes photography of Blaney’s professional work. There is a small amount of restricted materials including Box 1, Folders 4, 6,7.

Biographical / Historical

David Blaney is a retired professor emeritus of Political Science at Macalester College. He received his B.A. with high distinction from Valparaiso University and his MA, PhD from the University of Denver. Blaney has written three books with author and professor Naeem Inayatullah including International Relations and the Problem of Difference (Routledge, 2004), Savage Economics: Wealth, Poverty and the Temporal Walls of Capitalism (2010), and Within, Against and Beyond Liberalism: A Critique of Liberal IPE and Global Capitalism (Rowman and Littlefield, 2021). He has co-edited two books with professor Arlene Tickner, Thinking International Relations Differently (Routledge, 2012) and Claiming the International (Routledge, 2013). Blaney published his book Political Economy as Theodicy: Progress, Suffering and Denial (Routledge, 2024) in 2024. He serves on the editorial team for the Routledge Press series, “Worlding Beyond the West.”

The collection includes correspondence, course materials, research files, writings, conference and event ephemera, publications, and a large collection of photographs related to his work at Macalester. Materials reflect Blaney's academic career and contributions to political science studies at Macalester.
