Young (Forrest) papers

Forrest Albert Young was born in Hutchinson, Kansas, on November 21, 1900. He graduated from Pretty Prairie High School in 1918 and attended Sterling College in Sterling, Kansas, from 1918 to 1920 and Monmouth College in Monmouth, Illinois, from 1920 to 1922, where he earned his B.S. Young attended the London School of Economics at the University of London in 1923 and earned his M.A. in economics from the University of Chicago in 1926. In 1938, he received his Ph.D. from the State University of Iowa, with a major in economics and a minor in business administration. He also completed graduate work at the University of Kansas, the University of Minnesota, and the University of Michigan.

In 1922, Young served as an instructor in economics at Assiut College in Egypt. From 1926 to 1929, he was an instructor at George Washington University. In 1929, he joined the faculty of Macalester College, where he taught until 1965 and served as head of the Department of Economics and Business Administration and Professor of Economics. In 1958, Young was appointed to the Governor's Advisory Council of Employment Security, where he served through two administrations.

Young co-authored Money and Banking, published by Pitman and Company, and authored Applied Economics, which was adopted for classroom use by 38 colleges. He also served as president of the Minnesota State Economics Association.
