Biographical / Historical
Grace Bee Whitridge joined the Macalester faculty in 1900. She studied at the Boston School of Oratory, Harvard University, the New York Academy of Dramatic Art, and Columbia University. At Macalester, Whitridge worked as a professor of dramatic art and was elected professor emeritus by the board of trustees after her retirement. She established several long standing traditions while at Macalester including the Feast of Lights and Founder’s Day celebration. In 1940 Whitridge received a Doctor of Letters from Macalester in recognition of her distinguished service to the community at large.
